First meeting with a solicitor…

What documents should I bring to my initial consultation?

Identification:

You will be asked to prove your identify and will need to bring two forms of identification to the meeting.

The identification check applies to all clients and is compulsory.

Being asked for identification should not be seen as a hostile step, nor should you feel under any kind of suspicion.

Solicitors are bound by a code of conduct and requesting identification documents is in compliance with this code, as well as the Anti-Money Laundering Regulations (government legislation).

A list of questions:

Sometimes seeing a solicitor for the first time can be an overwhelming experience, and you may forget to ask some key questions.

It is useful to write down any questions you would like to discuss to act as a prompt to make sure you get as much out of the first meeting as possible.

Anything else:

You may have received paperwork from the court, or from your ex partner’s legal representative. It would be useful to bring these documents with you so they can be discussed at the initial consult.
