Can I obtain a divorce?
A divorce petition can only be presented to the court when you have been married for a period of at least 1 year.
You do not necessarily need to have married in England and Wales to obtain a divorce here.
Although you do not need to have married in England & Wales, you do need to be able to demonstrate a connection with this jurisdiction to be able to divorce here. This is known as the jurisdiction of the court.
